Bordeaux: European Best Destination of the Year

Bordeaux has been crowned “European Best Destination 2015.”
The French city won the annual online contest organized by the European Best Destination (EBD). The non-profit travel organization based in Brussels has been dedicated to promote culture and tourism in Europe since 2009.

Bordeaux Beats European Giants

For three weeks, online voters from 113 countries chose among 20 European cities competing for the title of top travel destination of the year. Bordeaux faced fierce contenders such as London, Rome, Amsterdam, Barcelona, and even Berlin.
The French city ranked first with a record 17.32% votes, a commanding lead over Lisbon (second place), and Athens (third place).

A Top Tourist Destination

Bordeaux’s popularity is largely due to the quality of the city’s tourism offer.
Many of the city’s attraction cited by travelers include the docks, the architectural heritage, the water mirror, museums, flowers parks, the beautiful surrounding regions and landscapes, the vineyards, and the zoo of Pessac.
The French city’s landslide victory is also the result of the herculean effort of the Bordeaux Tourist Office. The highly energetic promotional team worked in partnership with an unprecedented number of local players: social media, the press, local sports clubs, hotels, restaurants, regional authorities, celebrities... Former French Prime Minister and Mayor of Bordeaux, Alain Jupé, was also personally involved in the competition.
The prestigious title of European Best Destination 2015 establishes Bordeaux and surrounding regions as an international destination.
